GIS Analysis of Industrial Animal Agriculture in Western Washington

Overview: This is a component of a Capstone project I developed while completing my Certificate of Geographic Information Systems. I utilized GIS to analyze the sustainability of concentrated animal feeding operations (factory farms) in relation to economic sustainability, social equity, and environmental sustainability.
A significant lesson I learned while working on this project is data availability is a determinant when designing a research project. I had to scale down the amount of state counties I included in my analysis due to a lack of data, refusal to share data, or prohibitive financial costs that some counties require when sharing data.
